Medical visa guidance for treatment in India

Visa rules can change. We help coordinate the hospital documents and practical steps, while the official Government of India visa portal remains the authority for eligibility and approval.

Reviewed 18 September 2026

Start with the official Government of India portal

India currently offers e-Medical visa categories for eligible passport holders, along with e-Medical Attendant categories. The official e-Visa portal states that eligibility depends on nationality and that medical applicants may need a letter from the hospital in India stating the proposed treatment or admission date.

What IndiaMedHealth can help with

  • Coordinate the specialist/hospital opinion needed before travel.
  • Help obtain the relevant hospital treatment letter or documentation where the hospital provides it.
  • Check that the treatment dates and travel plan are logically aligned.
  • Coordinate appointments after the visa is approved.

What IndiaMedHealth cannot do

Visa approval is made by the relevant Indian authorities. We cannot guarantee approval, change immigration rules or issue a government visa ourselves.

Important: Do not pay an unofficial 'emergency visa fee' to IndiaMedHealth. The Government of India's official e-Visa advisory says it does not charge an additional emergency/express e-Visa fee.

Before booking flights

  • Confirm that the medical visa/entry permission is valid for your passport and purpose of travel.
  • Confirm your hospital appointment and likely admission date.
  • Allow enough flexibility for investigations that may be repeated after arrival.
  • Ask the treating team when return travel is medically reasonable.
