Travelling home after prostate surgery should be planned around the specific operation, the patient's recovery and the treating team's advice. A patient who has had HoLEP does not have the same recovery pathway as someone who has had radical prostatectomy.
Before booking the return flight
- Ask the surgeon when flying is considered appropriate for your procedure and health status.
- Know whether a catheter will still be present and who will remove it.
- Obtain a discharge summary, medication list, operative details and pathology plan.
- Understand warning symptoms that should trigger urgent medical review.
- Arrange follow-up before leaving India.
After returning home
Some patients need urine tests, PSA monitoring, wound review, pelvic-floor rehabilitation, pathology discussion or ongoing cancer treatment. IndiaMedHealth can help coordinate communication with the treating team and assist with continuity of care where feasible.
Flight timing and activity restrictions are individual medical decisions. Follow the treating surgeon's instructions rather than a generic timetable.
